We Walk Together by Thompson Emate

Poem

Come up higher,
Don’t just be a fighter,
Stand with me,
Let’s go down this alley.

Come out of that room,
Only then can you disperse the gloom,
There’s a trouble that dwells with us,
Time, age and the elements have shown me the path to redemption.

Come and let’s walk to the light,
Don’t be lost in the night,
I know the tempest that comes to your room,
Don’t be swallowed in its sea.

My mama gives me a hand,
I stand with her on a moonlit land,
We walk together,
She says some words as she nods.

I hear songs from the deep,
My mother smiles and I weep,
There are songs I hear in my mind,
Sometimes when I’m alone at night.
