Wilting by Chilufya Chileshe

Buoyant and beautiful
the fruit of his brain bountiful
shared with the fruit of his loin
beyond bounds
his bravery exceptional
shoulders wide and sturdy

Today he floundered and folded
with sudden rapidity
the greenness of his essence escaping
frantic fear gripped
any waft of wind will throw off the branch
what is left of his freshness
