Words Between Silence by Lee Evans

Quaz | May 8th, 2021 | poetry | No Comments

Our conversation was wonderful.
What you didn’t say is so precious,
I can never thank you enough.

It’s not that you never spoke,
but in the silence between your words
I discerned your true meaning.

Was it the twinkle in your eye,
the tone of your voice? Who knows?
(You can’t answer in words, obviously.)

I’ve ruined the whole thing, now–
I should have just let it be.
Forgive me for speaking about it.
