Worth by Stephen Kingsnorth

Poem

See, all of Gaia’s children find,
whatever lore or faith they trace,
it is as offspring of the earth
their destiny, hurt, whole the race.
As stewards of our birthing site,
protectors of their given berth,
our fellows of this common clay
will learn their judgements weigh its worth.

Nature’s love from every clime,
an interactive enterprise,
where every cell has rôle to play,
evolving cycle, life, death, rise.
So in the fall, ice death, green shoot,
whatever species, life in world,
a sylvan offering on a hill
exemplifies god’s heart unfurled
